What Is Purpose by Derrick Sanders, Jr.

Bailiff:  All rise! The Court of Moving Mountains Through Faith, is now in session. The honorable Judge of Faith presiding. Your Honor, this is case number 1921 on the counter of Plan vs. Purpose , August 21, Nashville, Tennessee, in which Plan is suing Purpose. Parties have been sworn in, you may be seated.

Plaintiff : Your Honor, the reason for suing the Defendant is due to their lack of perception towards planning. Although we have issues with planning, we rarely see them. Society tends to have specific viewpoints towards Purpose. Purpose includes having faith the size of a mustard seed, relying on God, and even stepping out in uncomfortable situations. We have more than what is being presented to you today. I don’t understand your purpose of attacking our communities to search for their purpose. In the real world we plan, plan, plan, and we do not rely on anything but planning. Your Honor, what you see today is the greatest issue facing the community today and how it affects us. I have multiple people behind me who don’t understand what purpose is and what it would do for us. Your Honor, I would like to ask the Defendant one question if you don’t mind.

Judge: Proceed.

Plaintiff : Thank you, Your Honor. Defendant, how do you define Purpose? What do you perceive purpose to be in your life? No further questions.

Defendant: Hello, your Honor. In response to the Plaintiff, purpose is simple. Purpose is to please God. Many of us have a complex comprehension of Purpose because we are too focused on the Plan. Your Honor, I have brought with me my evidence, the Bible. Specifically in Proverbs 19:21 it says that “ Many are the plans of a man's heart, but only the purpose of God's will prevail.” This means that as humans in the flesh, we all have plans, and I won’t argue that. However, when our plans interfere with God’s purpose, then there comes an issue. See, purpose has its own way of displaying itself and many times we won’t even know we’re in it. Your purpose isn’t always the thing you majored in. Purpose requires you to have Faith. What is Faith you ask? I am glad you did. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Faith doesn’t require a lot. In fact, Faith only requires the size of a mustard seed. Do you know how small that is? And even in that, it can move mountains.

My second proof of evidence comes from Matthew 17:20 that says “ Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” This is a direct resemblance of the plan aligned with the purpose. If you have faith in God’s purpose, he will execute your plan. Before you were born, God knew you,
he sanctified you, he ordained you, and he set apart to prophet amongst the nations. Have you ever heard the term, favor ain’t fair? It’s because when we ask to fulfill our “purpose” which is ultimately to please him, we find ourselves in places that don’t seem fair, but God favors us.

Lastly, your Honor. If I may speak for myself. I perceive purpose as the anticipation of something greater through following the path that God has for us. I truly believe that purpose can be found in the most oddest ways. Purpose is found in places that you don’t want to go, but God placed you. Purpose is coming to the realization that even though things may not have went my way, I am glad they went God’s way. Purpose is sticking through the course and the assignment even when things are hard, because diamonds came from pressure. If I had to have a perception of how I apply and view purpose in my own life, it would be that as long as I am pleasing God, I am pleased. Your Honor, I ask that you consider dropping the lawsuit against me in this court and join me as I encourage others to Move Mountains Through Faith. No further discussion, your Honor.

Judge: The judgment is in favor of the Defendant to plead not guilty. As a result, the charges for the Plaintiff will be to incorporate your Purpose before your Plan. The Court Case is now dismissed.
